Presentation: The Social Impact of Learning Disabilities (LDs) In this workshop we will discuss why children with LDs are at risk for experiencing social challenges with their peers. Participants will explore what skills are needed in order to be socially competent in everyday life. Strategies on how to understand and support social competence will be discussed.

Speaker: Julie Weisz is a Child and Family Clinician at the Integra Program of the Child Development Institute. Julie works in the Community Engagement and Education program at Integra and currently provides education and training to caregivers, educators, students, professionals and community members to support children and youth with LDMH. The Integra Program is the only accredited children’s mental health agency in Canada providing mental health services exclusively to children and youth whose mental health issues (MH) are complicated by learning disabilities (LDs). The Integra Program provides family-centered, evidence-informed mental health intervention services to children and youth with diagnosed LDs ages 8 to 18 years in the Toronto region.
